Marysville Days 2011 We participated in the Marysville Days Parade today wearing replica uniforms from the 1880s and pulled two 19th century hose carts.

The Fredericton Firefighters Association has been working on history project that has seen us restore the two hose carts and have the uniforms made.

The 2009 defending champions Fredericton Firefighters Curling team lost to Saint John in the final game at the 2010 New Brunswick Firefighters Curling Championship.

January 19, 2010 - Haiti Relief
Fredericton Fire, Police and Oromocto Fire are providing drop off points for the MANNA Care Foundation that will be sending 5 sea containers to Jacmel, Haiti.

September 11, 2009 New Brunswick Firefighters Parade
Over 270 Firefighters from all over New Brunswick gathered for the 3rd annual NB Firefighters Memorial Parade.

Beautiful weather and a good crowd made for a memorable event.

January 26, 2009 - Fredericton Firefighters win provincial title
Fredericton firefighters have won the 2009 New Brunswick Firefighter Curling Championship this weekend. Congratulations to Skip Todd Nichol, lead Dan Hatheway, second Darren Billings and third Ken Dickeson.

June 16, 2008 - Fund raiser for Goodlife Kids Foundation
Yesterday was the draw for the playhouse to benefit the Goodlife Kids foundation. Over $1000 was raised. Tickets were sold on a playhouse built by members of our combat challenge team.

June 15, 2008 - 2008 Muscular Dystrophy Snorkel Sit
Firefighter Barry Durling is down from the bucket and raised over $23000 for Muscular Dystrophy thanks to the very generous donations made by the citizens of Fredericton.

August 29, 2007 - Firefighter Combat Challenge Nationals
Our team heads to Halifax tomorrow for the Canadian Championships. Good Luck Guys!

2007 Muscular Dystrophy Snorkel Sit
This year's Muscular Dystrophy Snorkel sit was on Father's Day weekend, June 14 - 17. A new local record of $18,325.35 was raised for MD. Great job Fredericton!

November, 2006 - Burnin' down the house at Na'sis Middle School
Our members once again participated the Nashwaaksis Middle School's "Burnin' down the house", their Communities in action program promoting fitness for the students.

October 4th, 2006 - Old King Street Fire Station
There was an open house at the old King Street Fire station (441 King St). We had a photo taken 75 years to the day after a similar one was taken there in 1931.

September 23, 2006 - Second place in US Northeast competition
Fredericton's Combat Challenge team came away with silver medals at the US Northeast Firefighter Combat Challenge in Augusta Maine today. Congrats to David McKinley for winning gold in the over-40 division.

September 15, 2006 - Hallam breaks 100 second barrier
Fredericton's Ryan Hallam broke the 100 second barrier at the Canadian Firefighter Combat Challenge Nationals today.

June 18, 2006 - Successful Ladder sit completed
Todd Nichol completed his northside 2006 MD ladder sit today. Frederictonians were especially generous, as we more than tripled last year's amount. A total of $12,650 was raised!

May 27, 2006 - Fredericton Firefighters finish first at Portage-a-thon
After carrying a canoue for over 7kms, the team may have finished first, but the real winners are the kids that will get to go to camp due to this fundraiser, put on by Partners for Youth. A HUGE thank you to all the teams that raised money and participated in this event!

May, 2006 - Fredericton Firefighter named Firefighter of the Year
Fredericton Firefighter Shawnee Main has been named Firefighter of the Year by the Atlantic Chapter of Muscular Dystrophy Canada for her commitment to the MD cause.

Congratulations to Fredericton firefighters who had the biggest increase in fundraising for Muscular Dystrophy in Atlantic Canada this past year. An increase of 45% in contributions.

Several Fredericton firefighters helped out with the entertainment portion of the recent administrative professionals gala and helped raise almost $700 for the women's transition house.

March 2, 2006 - Charity Wheelchair Basketball Game
Fredericton firefighters teamed up this evening with UNB nursing students in a Wheelchair Basketball game against the New Brunswick Men's Wheelchair Basketball team. Although we were soundly defeated, funds were raised to build a wheelchair ramp at the Harriet Irving Library.

Sept 24, 2005 - Adventures in Motion
Fredericton firefighters participated in this year's Adventures in Motion campain for the Special Olympics, running one of the activities for the event. Participants were put through a rescue simulation.

Sept 9, 2005 - Fredericton Firefighter appears at Telethon
Fredericton's Shawnee Main (4th from left) appeared on the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s 2005 Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon held September 4-5. Firefighters raised more than $21 million and over $1 million was donated to the relief effort along the US gulf coast.

Fredericton firefighters participated in this month's Atlantic Burn Camp in Cape Breton.

July 30, 2005 - Carwash for Atlantic Burn Camp
Three Fredericton Firefighters are going to the 2005 Atlantic Burn Camp to serve as counsellors. Today's carwash raised $650. Thank you to the citizens of Fredericton for your support.

June 28, 2005 - Fredericton Firefighter wins Gold at World Police & Fire Games
Fredericton Firefighter Shawnee Main won the gold medal today in the women's bench press at the World Police & Fire Games, being held in Quebec City.

Firefighter Todd Nichol's laddersit was a success, despite the bad weather we had. $4000 was raised for Muscular Dystrophy. A big thank you to the citizens of Fredericton for your generosity. Thanks to all that donated and also to those honked on the way by to show support!

June, 2005 - Fredericton Firefighter to make presentation at Telethon
Fredericton's Shawnee Main will represent firefighters from Atlantic Canada at the Jerry Lewis Telethon at the Beverly Hills Hilton, in Beverly Hills California on Labour Day weekend.

Two members went down to Haverhill Massachusetts to compete in their regional Combat Challenge and took the top two times! Congratulations to Dwayne Killingbeck and David McKinley.

January 26, 2005 - Close call for firefighters
Two Fredericton Firefighters were taken to hospital after a floor collapsed at a structure fire. We are happy to report that their injuries were minor.

Oct 8, 2004 - MD Fund Raiser - Ladder 49 opening


In just four hours, $675 was raised at the opening of Ladder 49. Once again, a big thank you to the citizens of Fredericton for your generosity. All proceeds were donated to Muscular Dystrophy.

Today's car wash raised just over $1000 to help send the Combat Challenge team to the World Championships.

The Combat Challenge team was invited to tonight's council meeting to recognized for their accomplishments so far this year.

Sept 4, 2004 - Death of Brunswick Allen
The last surviving charter member of the Fredericton Firefighters Association passed away yesterday with the death of retired Captain Brunswick (Beeb) Allen.

Aug 20, 2004 - Death of Fire Chief Harold Doherty
The Fredericton Fire Department lost a good friend yesterday. Fire Chief Harold Doherty (Ret) was the longest serving Fire Chief in the history of the Fire Department (1945-1977).

Aug 8, 2004 - Combat Challenge Team Results
Our Combat Challenge team placed second at the Atlantic regional in Halifax yesterday. John McGrattan sucessfully defended his title in the over-50 division.

June 20, 2004 - MD Laddersit 2004
Fredericton Firefighter Todd Nichol was atop the Snorkel Truck for four (4) days in an effort raise money for Muscular Dystrophy. The rain caused a cancellation of the carwash, but the boot tolls at the Market and Regent mall were a success. Thanks to the citizens of Fredericton for your generosity. Over $3100 dollars was raised.

June 18, 2004 - Workers Comp changes introduced
Liberal MLA Abel LeBlanc introduced changes to the Workers' Compensation Act to provide for the removal of restrictions for firefighters and police officers. Second reading is June 22nd.

June 10, 2004 - Museum Opening
The Fredericton Firefighters Exhibit opened today at the York Sunbury Museum. It will be opened until Labour Day. See the Museum section for more information.

May 30, 2004 - Church Service
The Marysville Baptist Church has invited members of the Fredericton Fire Department to a special service May 30th, to show appreciation, honour Fredericton's fallen firefighters and to pray for our safety.

March 20th 2004 - Para-Skate
Our members went to Para-Skate 2004 to help with the ice sledge demonstration and to help people on and off them.

March 14th 2004 - Members featured in web project
Members from Platoon 4, Station 1 are being featured in a webpage project done by students from St. Thomas University. Check out their work HERE.

March 6th 2004 - Boot Drive
$568.26 was raised at today's charity boot drive at the Market. A big thank you to the citizens of Fredericton who again showed their generosity in a big way!

Febuary 26th 2004 - Charity Ice Hockey
The Fredericton Firefighters Association teamed up with the Fredericton Police Association to take on students from Devon Middle School in a charity hockey game today. The students came away with a 6-5 victory, scoring in the final minute. The crowd enjoyed the fun as a few players 'earned' pies in the face during the game.

Febuary 20th 2004 - Snow Challenge
We will have three members at the Snow Challenge tomorrow. A donation was made by our association to the cause.

Febuary 17th 2004 - Saftey Poster Contest
FF Shelley Ryan was be one of the judges for the United Commercial Travelers Annual Safety Poster Contest.

Febuary 8th 2004 - Winterfest
Members of the the Fredericton Firefighters Association volunteered at Winterfest February 7th and 8th.

February 7th 2004 - Balloons for MD
We gave out balloons for a donation to the boot at the Boyce Farmers Market today. Over $250 was raised for Muscular Dystrophy.

January 7th 2004 - Blood Donor Clinic
Members of the the Fredericton Firefighters Association helped out at this month's blood donor clinic, which was held January 6th & 7th.

December 18th - Ice Rescue

High winds and broken ice hampered efforts, but the rescue was sucessful.

December 17, 2003 - Increased Pension Accrual Rate
It is now official, the 2.33% pension accrual rate has finally been enacted by the federal government. Read thestory here.

December 13th - Charity Hockey Game
Our members participated in the Positive Heart Living charity hockey game.

November 26th - "Burnin' Down the House"
For the second straight year, Fredericton Firefighters put on the "Burnin' down the House' event at Nashwaaksis Middle School. In a test of teamwork, speed and strength, each class participated in a Combat Challenge style relay.

November 24 - Smoke Detector Donation
The Fredericton Firefighters Association and the Fredericton Fire Department went 'halfs' on a special smoke detector designed for the hearing impaired. The funds were donated to Youth in Transition in Fredericton.

November 21st - Tug of War
We competed against the Police Department today in a Tug-of-War at City Hall at noon, winning the best 2 out of 3 event.

November 12th - Remembrance Day
Our members participated in the Remembrance Day ceremonies in Marysville yesterday.

November 9th - Fredericton Firefighter wins World Championship
Lt John McGrattan won the World Championship title in his division of the Firefighter Combat Challenge in Ottawa this week.

September 13 - Car Wash Fund Raiser
Today's car wash a great success, raising over $900. A big thank you to the citizens of Fredericton.

September 11th - 9-11 Memorial Service
Members of the Fredericton Fire Department gathered at the Fredericton Firefighter Memorial to remember those lost on September 11, 2001.

September 8th - Fredericton Firefighter wins National Championship
Lt John McGrattan won the over 50 division at the Canadian Firefighter Combat Challenge Nationals in Charlottetown.

August 10th - New Canadian Record in the Combat Challenge
John McGrattan set a new Canadian Record yesterday in the over 50 division of the Firefighter Combat Challenge. He and the Fredericton team were competing at the regional event in Dieppe, New Brunswick.

August 8th - Fredericton Firefighter chosen for Burn Camp
Fredericton Firefighter Shawnee Main has been chosen to represent the Atlantic district of professional firefighters at the IAFF burn camp in Washington DC this fall. Shawnee is well known for her dedication and hard work for charities in the Fredericton area.

August 5th - Presumptive Cancer Legislation
Uniformed professional firefighters from all over New Brunswick gathered in Fredericton today as Liberal Leader Shawn Graham introduced a private members bill recognizing the fact that certain types of cancer are brought on by firefighting.

July 24th - Winner of Draw Announced
Willard Wilson of Harvey Station won the $8000 shopping spree at Sutherland Honda. Thank you to all the members of the public that bought tickets.

July 21-24th - Atlantic Professional Fire Fighters Convention
The Fredericton Firefighters' Association is hosted the Atlantic Provinces Professional Fire Fighters Association Convention at the Sheraton Hotel.

June 16 - Ladder Sit Results
Fredericton Firefighter Roger Carnahan finished his Muscular Dystrophy ladder sit yesterday. Over $2000 was raised for the cause. Members of the deparment packed groceries at the two local superstores to help raise money.

May 28 - Fund Raiser
Members of the Combat Challenge Team did a fund raiser at the Firehouse Lounge tonight at Regent Mall.

May 15 - Sponsorship Recognition
Glenn Sullivan represented the Fredericton Firefighters Association as we were recognized at the Lord Beaverbrook Hotel yesterday for the hospathon Silver Sponsorship ($5000) that we donated last year. A plaque will be placed on the wall at the DECH.

April 10 - Raffle Fundraiser
Members of the Fredericton Firefighters Association are selling tickets on an $8,000 shopping spree (from Sutherland Honda) at the Regent Mall. You can also pick up a copy of the Atlantic HotShots Calendar for $5 (while they last).

March 29 - Fredericton Junior Pipe Bandfundraiser
Two of our members attended the 'Spring Tea and Silent Auction' put on by the Fredericton Junior Pipe Band and Academy. The two hour event included an excellent concert performance by members of the band. They will be going to the North American Pipeband Championships in Maxville, ON in August.

March 22 - Para-Skate 2003
Our members participated in the 2003 Para-Skate activities helping people in and out of the ice sledges.

March 15, 2003 - MD Drive
Our members did a Muscular Dystrophy drive over the last eight days. We collected donations at the Superstores and Northside Sobeys. We also gave out balloons during a boot drive at the Market on March 8th and 15th.

February 18 - Budget includes Firefighters
After years of lobbying the federal government, Canadian Professional Firefighters finally heard what they were looking for.In today's budget speech, the finance minister said: "...we are recognizing the unusual hazards faced by Canada’s firefighters. And so to enhance their quality of life in retirement, we will accelerate their pension accrual rates."

February 15 - Fredericton Firefighters get award

New Brunswick International Speedway recently presented Hughie York Dedication to the Sport award to members of the Fredericton Firefighters Rescue Squad for their hard work and dedication.

Members volunteer their time to man the rescue truck at the track.

Blood Donor Clinic
Our members volunteered their time for the blood donor clinic on January 7th and 8th at the Fredericton Motor Inn. 300 units were collected from 336 registered donors which will benefit 1200 people in need of blood products.

November 25 - Communities in Action
Our members went toNashwaaksis Middle School today to help with their Communities in Action program called "Burning Down the House".

Middle School Kids are Firefighters for a day!Members from several levels of government as well as members of the media were on hand as we presented a fireground task-oriented relay. Several hundred students competed in a team relay involving ten events including hose rollups, search and rescue, dummy drags, and hose advances.

Congratulations to Class 7C who won the overall title, beating both the media dream team as well as all the grade 8 and grade 6 classes.

November 11 - Remembrance Day
We participated in the Parade in Marysville today. Thank you to the members of the public that came out to help us show support for our Veterans who sacrificed so much for their country.

October 12 - Fredericton Firefighters in New York
Seventeen firefighters from Fredericton joined tens of thousands of their colleagues today in the IAFF memorial service for the FDNY firefighters lost in the World Trade Center attacks of 2001.

September 22 - Combat Challenge Car Wash
A big thank you to the citizens of Fredericton for their generous support. We raised $700 in less than four hours. Proceeds are to help send the Combat Challenge team to the World Championships in November.

David McKinley competed in the individual category of the Firefighter Combat Challenge this weekend in Gloversville, NY, taking first place.

A good day for the team in Sherbrooke as four of the six guys had personal best times.

Hospathon June 22nd
Thanks to all who were out and supported the Hospathon on June 22nd. Our team raised $1115 and our association will kick in the additional $3885 required for a silver sponsorship.

Fund Raiser June 14th
On Friday June 14th, we raised $1567 for Muscular Dystrophy by packing groceries at the Real Atlantic Superstores on the South and Northside locations. Thank you to the generous members of the public who supported this cause.
