Historic Fires of Fredericton

    Queen Street Fire
    March 19, 1974

The Queen Street fire of 1974 was very large incident, lasting for two days and consuming most of the 300 and 400 blocks of Queen Street. Power was knocked out to much of the downtown and between 60 and 80 people displaced. Among the 17 businesses that were burned out were the Grand Hotel & Dragon City Restaurant.

Over 150 people fought the blaze, including FF's off duty & called back, public works, and public volunteers. 11 pieces of equipment, including 6 pumpers scattered from King St to the river. Dobblesteyn Electric assisted with a bucket truck to assist crews with elevated streams. The Dobblesteyn brothers manned their own truck, spraying water on the fire. This was the third time they had been called to help out at a fire.

With the fire getting worse, crews move quickly to
disconnect the pumper so it can be moved from harm's way
